A plagrized work is easy to figure out, no matter how the author packages it. Because you can’t change the “spirit” of original work. Sometimes you may think that you have transformed the spirit into your own soul and produce original works. However, you can’t.
Like some paintings, you can easily figure out the source of touches, characters and their facial expressions as you put the sight on.
Take a painting as example. It describes a rural worker squatting at there and watching the crowds in a luxury place. These crowds, some of them are fat, or alluring, or confident, or ambitious, are painted lively; The rural worker is also painted vividly, with the facial expression, eyesight, outfits and posture are all described well, reflecting the living situation of rural workers. These buildings were built by their hands, however, they didn’t have the chance to enter that place after decoration, let alone to enjoy things inside.
The skill and idea can be realized as excellent if we only focus on the painting. However, if we want to honor it with some awards, the painting is incapable, for it is a plagrized work. Why?
Before that, a foreign painter drew a painting about a clown in a circus, who squatting at a corner of theatre with tiredness and watching the leaving audience. None of them would pay attention to a clown, who even just brought happiness and laughter to them.
See? That’s plagrization, not reference.
PART ONE
A plagiarized work, no matter how fancifully it is packaged, will be detected.
动词的话,可以是 see through 或者 detect。
Why? Because the soul of the original can’t be changed.
Soul。
You may believe that by transforming it into yours, you can produce an original work.
In fact, you can’t.
原文只是说“不是”,但并非一定是 you are not。
PART TWO
For example, in examining a plagiarized painting, we can easily discover where its certain brushstrokes come from and where particular facial expressions of the characters in it come from.
PART THREE
For example, there is a painting that depicts a rural worker. He is squatting at a corner of a city and watching people entering and leaving a luxury building.
“隅”可以是 corner 或者 a certain place。
Some of these people are big-bellied, some dressed seductively, some all smiles and some enormously proud.
前者可以是:be all smiles;后者呢?enormously proud。
The rural worker himself is also vividly portrayed.
His facial expressions, the look in his eyes, his clothes and his posture are all realistically reproduced, offering an insight into the lives of rural workers.
当然,也有完整的版本:the look in his eyes。
“生存状态”简单点,life status 或者 life。
These luxury buildings are built by them brick by brick; after decoration, however, they have no opportunity to enter them again, let alone have fun there.
PART FOUR
Both the idea and skills that the painting demonstrates are excellent, but it is not qualified to gain awards for excellence in art production. After all, it is a plagiarized work.
PART FIVE
A foreign artist had created a painting in which an exhausted circus clown, sitting at a corner of the theater, watches audiences leaving after the end of the show.
None of them, however, pay attention to the clown who has brought them so much laughter.
PART SIX
Therefore, the first painting represents a form of plagiarism, rather than a legitimate borrowing of ideas.

A literary or art work copied from others will be seen through no matter how skillfully it is disguised in a new form. That’s because you cannot assume to have the “soul” of the original. You think you’ve changed it into the soul of your work. But you can’t. It’s a pity that yours is not an original piece of work after all. Take a painting for an example. Just a glance at it can give some idea of its source. One can easily detect how it is delineated. The source from which the figure’s facial expression if copied can also be traced. The painting shows a migratory worker from farmland squatting at a corner of a city. He looks at people coming into and going out of luxurious places. Those people are depicted vividly, some big-bellied, some slender and coquettish, some radiant with joy and some full of pride and satisfaction. That worker is also vividly delineated: his expression on his face and in his eyes, his clothing and his bodily attitude are all true to life—showing the real living status of such a worker. Those magnificent houses are products of workers like him. It was they who had built them brick by brick and tile by tile until the construction work is finished by final decoration. That’s also time for him to go, he had no right to stay and enjoy the fruit of his labor. The idea to portray such a scene is praiseworthy, and the painting is also skillfully produced, but it is not qualified for a prize of creation. The reason is very simple: it is a product of plagiarism. A foreign painter had produced earlier a picture of a circus clown squatting wearily at a corner near the gate, looking at the audience leaving after the end of the show. They went away paying no attention at all to the clown who had caused them a lot of laughter. So we see what plagiarism is, it’s not what we call “draw on the achievement of others”.

→ plagiarism, not (a) borrowing / drawing inspiration |
| 眼神 | eyesight | eyesight = 视力(看得清不清),“眼神”是眼睛里的神情 → the look in his eyes / his eyes。
- 双谓语结构:“These crowds, some of them are fat…, are painted lively” —— 插入语用了完整谓语 are,主句又 are painted,一句两个谓语打架。插入语去谓语化:some big-bellied, some seductively dressed…
- with 复合结构误加谓语:“with the facial expression, eyesight, outfits and posture are all described well” —— with + 名词 + 分词/形容词,不能再有 are。→ with his facial expression, the look in his eyes, his clothes and posture all realistically reproduced(或干脆拆成独立句,参考译文即如此)。
- 定语从句缺谓语:“a clown…, who squatting at a corner” —— who was squatting 或直接 squatting(去掉 who)。
- comma splice:“…built by their hands, however, they didn’t have…”
- “squatting at there” —— there 是副词,前面不能加 at。
- “None of them would pay attention” —— would 误用,陈述事实:none paid / none pay attention。
- 拼写:plagrized(×2)/ plagrization(×1)→ plagiarized / plagiarism。
Take a painting as an example;a corner of the theatre;第 5 段小丑第二次提到应为 the clown。
- 踌躇满志 → ambitious:ambitious = 有野心的,原文是”自得意满”(enormously proud / full of pride and satisfaction)。
- “as you put the sight on”:Chinglish,“一看” = at a glance / at first sight。
- “can be realized as excellent”:不通,直接 are excellent。
- “the painting is incapable”:incapable 指”(人)无能力的”;“不够格” = not qualified (for) / doesn’t deserve。
- “with tiredness”:名词硬凑,exhausted(定语)或 wearily(状语)。
- “figure out”(×2):figure out = 弄明白、想清楚;“看出来/识破” = detect / see through。
- “哪一笔 → touches”:brushstrokes / strokes。
- “painted lively”:lively 是形容词,副词 vividly / in a lively manner。
→ squatting at a corner of a city。
→ people entering and leaving a luxury building。
→ awards for excellence in art production / a prize of creation。
- 「可惜你不是」—— “可惜”的惋惜语气漏(However, you can’t 只剩转折)。→ In fact / It’s a pity, but you can’t。
- 「他就再也没有机会进去了」—— “再也”(never again / no longer)未译出,且”他”被换成 they,与前文 the rural worker 单复数断裂。
- 「望着散场离去的人」—— “散场”(after the show)漏。
