【南京林业大学MTI 2015】 不朽的书籍
玩了一天，天快黑了，才想起来今天星期一。
罪过，罪过。于是，马不停蹄地赶来更新，也从侧面体现了作者对于暑假的依依不舍。
暑假过得实在是太快。幸亏，再坚持几个星期，就到中秋假期和国庆假期，这样心里面起码还有个盼头。
这几天，秋风渐起。按照国际惯例，也终于迎来了过敏的日子。目前处于嗓子有点疼的状态，说话自动切换到了重低音模式，算是因祸得福吧。早上起来偶尔连续打三四个喷嚏，还是一样的酸爽。
今天的材料，来自于南京林业大学2015年的MTI汉英翻译题目。题目虽然过去了十年之久，但是材料本身的难度不减，仍然值得仔细分析和揣摩。

句式精析
1. 书籍具有不朽的精神，它们是迄今为止人类所创造持续最久的产品。
【参考译文】 Books have an enduring spirit. In fact, they are the most enduring products created by humanity.
“书籍”都能译错的同学，想必也是骨骼惊奇，天生神力。
“不朽的精神”可以处理成“形容词加名词”的结构，比如说 ever-green / eternal spirit。或者，使用后置定语从句：spirit that never dies。
“持续最久”是什么意思？可以理解成：保留时间最久。
2. 庙宇会损坏，塑像会颓废，但是书籍却能长存人间。
【参考译文】 Temples may decay and sculptures may crumble, yet books can exist in the human world for an infinite period of time.
“庙宇会损坏”的动词，用哪个？可以考虑主动结构的动词，比如：decay。
“颓废”也是一样的处理思路。但此处的颓废，可不是精神或者情绪上的一蹶不振，而是 crumble。
“长存人间”的表达非常的多，有简单的，也有复杂的。简单点：Exist much longer in the human world。如果复杂些呢？a long-standing existence。
3. 对于思想而言，时间并不重要，它们今天仍然能够同多年前第一次在作者的头脑中刚刚产生时那样鲜活。
【参考译文】 For ideas, time doesn’t matter, because they can remain as vibrant today as when they first took shape in the minds of their authors.
“思想”可以 ideas 也可以 ideals。“时间并不重要”没啥可讲的，可以直接用形容词 important；也可以动词 matter。
“鲜活”可以考虑 fresh 或者 vibrant。“产生”并不一定非得是 produce 或者 form，还可以试试 take shape。
4. 当年的话语和思想如今依然通过书本在向我们生动地诉说。
【参考译文】 Words and ideas that emerged in the past are presented in a lively manner in books.
“话语”可以用 words。“诉说”的宾语是什么？能够理解出它的宾语，也就真正看懂这句话的含义。
这其实是被动句！
“生动地诉说”可以转变成大白话：生动地呈现。
5. 时光的唯一作用就在于它筛出了糟粕，因为只有真正优秀的文学作品才能存留下来。
【参考译文】 The only role of time is to sift out the bad, because only truly great literary works can survive.
“筛出了糟粕”会不会？动词表达非常多。Discard 或者 sift out。
“存留下来”一个动词就非常简单：survive。
6. 那些杰出的伟人不会从这个世界消失，他们的灵魂保存在书本里，云游四方。
【参考译文】 Those great men and women will never disappear from the world, as their souls, preserved in books, can travel across the world.
这句话看起来非常简单，但是要注意句内逻辑。
“云游四方”是 travel around the world 吗？表达是成立的，含义也跟原文是相符的。
7. 书是活的声音，它所包含的智慧今人依然聆听。
【参考译文】 Books are living voices; the wisdom that they contain is still heard today.
“活的声音”最好选择直译的方法，因为更能体现原文的本质含义。至于措辞，living voice。为什么不是 sound？大聪明，此处的声音是谁的声音？看前一句，明显是指的“伟人”的声音。
“今人依然聆听”感觉并不是真的在讲“听”这个动作，可以理解成：学习、吸收、借鉴。或者，侧重于结果，用 hear。
8. 因此，我们依然时刻受到过去伟人的影响。
【参考译文】 Therefore, we continue to draw inspiration from those great men and women every day.
这句话没啥可讲的吧？
9. 那些世界巨匠像过去一样活在人世间。
【参考译文】 These giants continue to live in the human world just as they did in the past.
这句话同样也没啥可讲的。
